Why I do what I do

Aug 12, 2020

Choosing your courier is not an easy task. Some people know from an early age what they want to be when they are adults, that was not the case for me. I remember when I was 17 and my parents pushed me to chose a college and a path.

I had no idea what I wanted, all I knew is that I wanted to do something fun that would inspired me everyday.

I have found inner peace in a lot of jobs that have come my way over the years, but after a while, something always made me change paths, like if what I was doing was not really my calling.

I have felt for years that I had not found my place in the world yet. But every job, every courier change, taught me something new, a new skill, a new outlook, how to pick myself back up and how to enjoy the little wins.

8 years ago, after a long courier as a Hotel Manager, I was challenged with the concept of Green Hospitality, resource efficiency and reduction of carbon footprint.

It took me a long time to really engage with this concept. Work was busy, I never had time to sit down and learn, and resources were not as readily available as they are now.

Fast forward 5 years later and I was obsessed with this concept.

Imagine if you could run a Hotel, with proper systems and processes implemented in all your departments, that allow you to control and reduce your use of energy and water, and production of waste.

Imagine if you could run a Hotel that reduces it’s carbon footprint every year, and looks after the environment it resides on.

Imagine if doing all that, also saves you thousands of €€ every year.

Would you not be crazy not to want to do it?

Well, that is why I do what I do, because it makes sense, it is good for the planet, it is good my customers bottom line and it makes me feel like I am achieving greatness.

Fifty Shades Greener teaches the hospitality workforce how to implement those systems and processes that will allow them to take control of their business utilities. We teach by “doing”, all of our courses are action based, we teach you an action, and you complete it at your workplace.

I do not want to spend hours telling people about climate change, raising sea levels and water drought. I do not want to spend hours wasting people’s time trying to explain to them the broad concept of sustainability.

I want to teach real actions in a short, fun and concise way.

In the next 5 years, my mission is for me and my team to reduce the Hospitality industry’s Carbon Footprint in the world by 10%.

That is my target, my 5 year goal. But I can not do this alone, the world is a big place, and I need HELP!

In June 2020, I launched a Licensing Training project with the help of my coach and mentor Des McCabe. We are seeking trainers, entrepreneurs or hospitality people that want to find a new courier path, build their own Fifty Shades Greener business in their local area, and help us green the industry.

Our next recruitment round is now open and we are receiving applications from the UK, USA and Canada, the last day for applications is August 24th and the induction programme for the chosen trainers will commence on September 1st.

If you are looking for a new courier, that cares about the environment and your customers, that makes you feel a sense of huge achievement and that means something, then you need to get in touch with us.
