My business carbon footprint, should I care?

Climate crisis, biodiversity collapse and extinguished eco systems are common words we hear every so often in recent years.

But what can I do about it?

Can I change it?

And if I can’t, should I care?

In a post COVID economy, business owners have enough to worry about without also joining the fight against climate change. However, can running greener business help recover the tourism and hospitality industry?

I think YES.

Benefits of running a Green Business

  • A Green business is one that reduces it’s energy, water and waste, when you reduce your utilities you also SAVE money.

  • Align your business to your customer values: 87% of global travellers want to travel more sustainably.

Do we know the real price of cheap flights?

The second most polluting industry in Ireland, according to the Climate Action Plan released a few weeks ago, is transport. The plan is aggressive in it’s targets to face out diesel and petrol cars, and my mind always goes to those that can not afford and electric car.

Most their wages go on rent, petrol and child minding.

They will not be in a position to buy an electric car in the next years.

They will be even in a worse position as time goes by and carbon tax increases, putting petrol in their cars will become a luxury.

How is the new Clima...

Starting the Environmental Conversation

Today I looked at the definition of a “Green Hotel” and here is what google sent back to me from Wikipedia:

“An eco-hotel, or a green hotel, is an environmentally sustainable hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimise its impact on the natural environment.”

“Making environmental improvements to its structure”? It’s a bit much isn’t it? If I was a business owner, curious about greening my business, I would close the page and forget about greening my business straight away.

Improvements to a structure evoke to me SPENDING MONEY. Not just money, a small fortune more than likely.

I have always wondered, why does the Environmental conversation always start so big? Why does it keep asking regular people in the ground to insulate their homes, or buy solar panels, or invest thousands of €€€ in structural reforms in order to comply with Green living?

Big Environmental Actions

A couple of weeks ago I was delighted that th...
