A Green Training Programme to support the Irish Hospitality Industry

Nov 23, 2020

Fifty Shades Greener, and the Educational Training Boards of Ireland, headed by KWETB, have partnered to deliver Environmental Training to the hospitality industry workforce in Ireland.

This project is funded by SOLAS and there will be no cost at all for businesses.

It has never been more important than now, that we provide opportunities for the workforce to upskill and learn something new in times of uncertainty within the industry.

The Fifty Shades Greener training programmes are practical, action based courses teaching employees and managers how to measure, monitor, control and reduce their business utilities.

“For me a Green business is one that reduces it’s impact on the environment, and we can achieve this by reducing our use of energy & water and production of waste. Reducing our utilities will not only reduce our Carbon emissions but it will also save us money. It is all about been resource efficient” explains Raquel Noboa, founder of Fifty Shades Greener.

As the Hospitality industry faces one of the darkest winters in modern times, KWETB is heading the project that will see “The Green Business” training programme available to all hospitality businesses. This is a flexible 4 month Coaching programme which will be free of charge through their local ETB.

“We want to teach as many employees as possible how to become the Green Managers of the future. This programme will give them a chance to learn the steps they need to take to implement an environmental management system at their workplace, reduce their utilities and their running costs.”

Businesses can also apply for support from their local ETB, to receive the Green Business Online Programme, a self-taught Greener for Beginners online course that provides training for the General Manager, the Green Manager and every member in the organisation.

“I am delighted that through government funding, ETB’s  are investing their resources on a Green Programme for the Hospitality industry. There is so much we can all do in our lives and our workplaces to change our own behaviour around the use of energy & water and production of waste. We must always remember that one small action taken by many businesses can have a huge environmental impact. This project will also allow us to establish a carbon footprint baseline from the businesses taking part. With Climate Change and reduction of emissions still at the forefront of our government objectives, it is important that we can gather data on our current carbon footprint. Without data, we can never say we are doing better” explains Raquel Noboa.

Training has commenced in November and businesses can express their interest through the KWETB website  https://www.kwetbmarinehouse.ie/50-shades-greener
